Startup one-liner:
A rewards and personal-finance based calorie-counting mobile application
Problem the startup solves:
Due to inflation and other macroeconomic factors, food costs are absolutely through the roof. Even prior to inflationary pressures, there has been an inaccurrate connotation that eating healthy requires expensive food costs. We are here to remove that stigma and help mitigate rising food costs, all while helping people eat healthy.
Progress and current status:
We have recently launched our mobile app MVP on the iOS App Store as of January 2023. We provide the simultaneous tracking of calorie consumption and personal food budgets in one place. Users will have the ability to earn in-app rewards that can be redeemed for health and fitness products through accomplishing challenges and achieving milestones related to their goals.
Our immediate plans are to receive feedback from our early users so that we can effectively and rapidly iterate upon our product to make it the absolute best it can be to create a superb user experience.
What is a crazy story about the startup?:
Finding our developers. My co-founder and I are not software engineers by background and currently and have been a competely bootstrapped startup. Given our budgetary constraints, we went to Upwork to find an offshore development firm that could provide the app development services we needed at a price we could afford out of pocket. We submitted our project proposal and received 99 proposals from freelancers and agencies who wanted to take on our project. As first time founders, we had to figure out a way to sift through all of the proposals and find the right fit for us as we were pursuing our first prototype of our product. This included weeks of 10pm and later Zoom calls with potential partners due to the U.S-India time difference and having to figure out how to differentiate seemingly identical company offerings. We are proud to say that the firm we picked has exceeded expectations and has been hired for additional projects since the first one and that choice was critical to the status and success of our app launch.
What is a company the startup looks up to, and why?:
Acquisition.com – one of the founders, Alexander Hormozi, has a fantastic story of how he became a $100 million CEO by age 28. His story includes many hardships and setbacks but his drive to succeed and discover what it means to be a successful entreprenuer is one that Jason and I find very inspiring and helps us push through the tougher days and roadblocks we encounter to continue to pursue excellence for Atlas Nutrition.
The company in four years will be…
‘
The top nutrition app on both the iOS and Google Play stores generating 7 figures in revenue per year. We will have built out an incredibly strong and driven team, established amazing partnerships for our in-app rewards store, and established a community of individuals looking to eat healthy and save money in the process.
