Problem the startup solves:
The culture of the hospitality industry centers around people. These businesses are essentially people managing people, who then serve people. There are hundreds of ways to lose money in restaurants, and given the razor-thin margins, small inefficiencies often mean the difference between success and bankruptcy. As you might guess, it’s the people, often lower-paid people, and their decisions that determine whether the business survives. To make matters worse, rather than being able to focus on their customers, staff members are consistently called away to make these stressful decisions in real-time. Outside of the stress on the staff, it’s these reactionary decisions that chip away at the profitability of these restaurants.
ClearCOGS is the decision management system that sits on top of the restaurant’s data. It provides access to the answers operators have to answer each day.
Progress and current status:
The operating system is built and is currently used by close to 100 restaurants each day.
What started as an aspiration only 18 months ago when we filed our first patent, has quickly blossomed into a concrete product roadmap and a system that can already answer the first two of many question categories; Food prep and Ordering.
What is a crazy story about the startup?:
It started as a side project that neither Osa nor Matt thought would ever be anything. It just kept gaining momentum and here we are!
What is a company the startup looks up to, and why?:
ReFed. They light the way for all of us companies working to reduce food waste.
